It has beauty, depth, it can be delightful and make us laugh with joy, and there is no end to it. It is worth devoting a life to, and it would be a life well-spent. And what is more, this construction of pure reason gives us power over the world. The planets move in their courses because of mathematics. On a lower level, the bridges we build don't fall down because of mathematics. On a much lower level, options traders on stock exchanges get rich because of mathematics.
